Digital Theatre releases Jonathan Pryce King Lear for download

Whatsonstage.com Awards sponsor Digital Theatre has announced its latest production for download – Michael Attenborough’s Almeida Theatre staging of King Lear, starring Olivier Award-winner Jonathan Pryce in the title role.

King Lear, which formed part of the RSC’s World Shakespeare Festival in 2012, is available now from Digital Theatre and can be watched online, downloaded, viewed on Samsung Smart TV or streamed to Digital Theatre’s new iPad app.

Pryce is joined in the cast by Kieran Bew (Edmund), Steven Elliott (Oswald), Ben Dilloway (King of France), Steven Elliott (Oswald), Phoebe Fox (Cordelia), Trevor Fox (Fool), Ian Gelder (Kent), Richard Goulding (Edgar), Richard Hope (Albany), Jenny Jules (Regan), Barry McCarthy (Lear’s Loyal Servant), Andrew Nolan (Duke of Burgundy), Chook Sibtain (Cornwall), Christopher Tester (Gloucester’s Servant), Zoe Waites (Goneril), Clive Wood (Gloucester) and Alix Wilton Regan (Gloucester’s Loyal Servant).

The production has designs by current Whatsonstage.com Award-nominee Tom Scutt with lighting by Jon Clark and sound and music by Dan Jones.

Digital Theatre, launched in 2009 by Robert Delamere and Tom Shaw, works in partnership with Britain’s leading theatre companies to capture live performance authentically onscreen. Using multiple camera angles and high-definition technology, they bring the drama and emotion of each production to a global online audience. Each production is available to rent online for a limited period or downloaded from their website

Digital Theatre has previously collaborated with the Almeida to capture Jez Butterworth’s Olivier Award-nominated comedy Parlour Song in May 2009. Directed by Ian Rickson, the production starred Amanda Drew, Toby Jones and Andrew Lincoln.

Other productions currently available for download include A Doll’s House (Young Vic), Into the Woods (Open Air Regent’s Park), Much Ado About Nothing and All My Sons (both West End).
