Doctor Who star Billie Piper missed the preview performance of Treats at the West End’s Garrick Theatre on Friday (23 February 2007) due to ill health. The actress makes her theatrical debut in the leading role of Ann in Laurence Boswell’s revival of Christopher Hampton’s 1976 drama about relationships, which opens - belatedly - on 8 March (See News, 23 Feb 2007). She was feeling ill during the day on Friday, so was sent home. A spokesperson for the production told Whatsonstage.com: “The company manager decided she should see a doctor, which she did, and she was then sent home. She is fine now, and was back for the Saturday matinee. Hopefully all will be well from now on.” Piper’s role was taken by her understudy, Antonina Lewis, for Friday’s performance. Prior to the West End, Treats first opened in mid-January at the Theatre Royal Windsor, then visiting Malvern, Bath and Richmond before transferring to the Garrick. Piper is joined in the three-hander by Kris Marshall and Laurence Fox.
