According to the Daily Mail, Joanna Riding is signed up to take over from Maria Friedman to play the heroine Marian in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi Whatsonstage.com Award-winning musical The Woman in White at the West End’s Palace Theatre. Friedman, whose trophy for Best Actress in a Musical was just one of the show’s five Whatsonstage.com wins (See News, 1 Feb 2005), leaves in May to star in a production of Gypsy in Texas. Riding was also nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Award this year – Best Actress for her performance in the Noel Coward comedy Blithe Spirit. Her many previous musical credits include The Witches of Eastwick, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, Martin Guerre, Me & My Girl, A Little Night Music and My Fair Lady, for which she won the 2002 Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical after taking over from Martine McCutcheon.
