Lee Sets Jerry Record Straight???

By • West End
Is Jerry Springer - The Opera a commercial hit or a flop at the West End’s Cambridge Theatre? Its hat-trick of awards aside, the show seems to have more than a few nay-sayers, who’ve been circulating rumours for awhile about its apparent demise. The Daily Mail recently picked up the story, too. But, when accepting the prize for Best Musical at Tuesday’s Critics’ Circle Awards ceremony, co-writer and director Stewart Lee came out fighting. “Contrary to what the Daily Mail says, we are not losing £40,000 a week at the Cambridge and we are not closing.” Currently, Jerry Springer is booking up to January 2005.
