As stage debuts go, it’s not the most promising of starts. Former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith premiered An Audience with Iain Duncan Smith on Saturday night at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. But the one-man show, in which he recounts anecdotes from his life and career, reportedly attracted only 67 ticket-holders at the 1,600-seat venue. When taking questions from the audience, one man asked: “Apart from being a Tottenham season-ticket holder, what is your greatest regret?" Surely, the answer An Audience with Iain Duncan Smith must have crossed Duncan Smith’s mind. Meanwhile, other politicos currently holding such “audiences with…” up and down the land include Tony Benn, Alastair Campbell and fellow former Tory leader William Hague.
