After Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s well-publicised tussling over Laura Michelle Kelly, who eventually opted for the former’s Mary Poppins (See News, 28 Jan 2004), there’s still no official news about who’ll take the title role in Lloyd Webber’s Wilkie Collins-based musical The Woman in White. However, in related casting rumours, we do hear that Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries) and long-standing West End diva Maria Friedman will feature in supporting roles. Friedman was last seen in Ragtime, presented by her sister Sonia Friedman, who is co-producing the new musical with Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group. It opens at the Palace Theatre in September (See News, 12 Dec 2003), directed by Trevor Nunn and designed by William Dudley.
