Two Dames are lined up for one West End production. Judi Dench will reportedly join Maggie Smith in the premiere of The Breath of Life, a new play by David Hare, produced by Robert Fox. The pair of stage veterans will play two women who have been involved with the same man. Smith was last seen in the 1999 West End production of Alan Bennett's The Lady in the Van, while Dench has just completed the Peter Hall revival of The Royal Family at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Neither a venue nor a director has yet been confirmed for the new project, although it is expected to open in September. While Smith and Dench, both stage legends, have not appeared together in the theatre since their beginnings in the 1950s ensemble at the Royal Shakespeare Company, they have worked together on two films - A Room with a View and Tea with Mussolini.
