American Psycho musical set for Almeida autumn premiere?

Headlong’s new musical adaptation of American Psycho will premiere at the Almeida Theatre this autumn, according to Playbill.com.

As previously reported, Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) has collaborated with Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark script doctor Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to adapt Bret Easton Ellis’ book for the musical stage.

Billed as “a bloody satire”, American Psycho will be directed by Headlong’s
Rupert Goold and co-produced by Act 4 Entertainment and The Collective.

The 1991 novel tells the story a self-possessed serial killer
working on Wall Street in the 1980s and has sold more than 1.6 million copies worldwide. The
2000 film adaptation was a critical success but
commercial failure, grossing just $15 million at the US and Canadian box
office.

The Almeida, where Michael Attenborough is about to step down as artistic director, has confirmed the report, tweeting “Watch this space for info in the spring”.
