Ghost‘s Fleeshman & Levy Headline WOS Awards

Theatregoers attending the 2011 Whatsonstage.com Awards, held at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre on Sunday 20 February 2011, will get a sneak peek at what’s sure to be a leading contender for next year’s prize-giving, Ghost The Musical. Stars Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy will perform a song from the upcoming world premiere as part of the star-studded Awards Concert and ceremony.
Ghost The Musical opens at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre on 19 July 2011 (previews from 22 June), following a seven-week tryout in Manchester from 28 March to 14 May. The extract at the Whatsonstage.com Awards Concert will mark one of the first opportunities for audiences to see a live performance from the brand new musical, based on the hit 1990 film which starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore as lovers torn apart by a violent murder.

Ghost has music and lyrics by the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Grammy Award winner Glen Ballard (whose credits include Alanis Morrissette’s album Jagged Little Pill). Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin has adapted his original screenplay. The premiere production is directed by Matthew Warchus and designed by Rob Howell. Choreography is by Ashley Wallen, musical supervision and arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, illusions by Paul Kieve, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Simon Baker.

Fleeshman and Levy have both previously held starring roles in two of this year’s Whatsonstage.com Award-nominated musicals. Fleeshman took over from Duncan James in Legally Blonde, still running at the Savoy Theatre and now leading the race for Best New Musical, while Levy made her West End debut in last summer’s transfer of the acclaimed Broadway revival of Hair at the Gielgud Theatre.

The Concert will include performances from a range of other West End stars, including nominees and nominated productions in the 2011 Whatsonstage.com Awards, which cover the best of the 2010 theatre year. Voting in this year’s awards continues until 31 January with winners announced and trophies presented at the Concert on 20 February.

Concert tickets, which range from £25-£47.50, are now on sale and can be booked by phone on 0844 482 5133 or online at www.whatsonstage.com/concert.

As with the Launch Party, at which shortlists were announced in December, the Awards Concert is held in aid of this year’s adopted charity, The Theatrical Guild, which was founded by actors to provide financial and other support to front of house and backstage staff in times of need.
