1st Night Photos: Barat & Frost Fool Around, Godot
Ex-Libertines band member Carl Barat marked his stage debut last night (28 January 2010, previews from 26 January), starring opposite Sadie Frost in a new production of Sam Shepard’s 1980 play Fool for Love at Riverside Studios (See News, 27 Nov 2009).
The season continues until 21 March with two more productions joining the rep: Shakespeare’s Richard III (opening 4 February), featuring Frost as Lady Anne, and a devised piece called Demi Monde, inspired by the designer and socialist William Morris.

Roger Rees made a welcome (and long-awaited) return to the London stage this week, stepping into Patrick Stewart‘s boots as Vladimir in Waiting for Godot at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (See News, 23 Nov 2009).
There was no soft-shoe shuffle at the curtain call this time around (See 1st Night Photos, 7 May 2009), but instead the cast took a collection for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Rees, best known to British theatregoers for his long association with the RSC (including playing the title role in Nicholas Nickleby), stars opposite Ian McKellen (Estragon), Ronald Pickup (Lucky) and fellow new cast member Matthew Kelly, who replaces Simon Callow as Pozzo.
