Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport – James Purnell, who attended the opening of Kwame Kwei-Armah’s new play Let There Be Love at the Tricycle on Monday (See 1st Night Photos, 22 Jan 2008) – has left the role after just six months to become Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, it was announced yesterday. Andy Burnham, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has been appointed to head up the department Purnell had previously been responsible for. Has Purnell lost his appetite for theatre already!?
