Paul McCartney has reportedly given his blessing to a new stage show inspired by his childhood growing up in working-class Liverpool. The piece – which takes its title, Liverpool Oratorio, from the former Beatle’s first classical work, premiered in 1991 in his home town – is being written by McCartney’s cousin Kate Robbins. It has apparently been in the works for awhile but was delayed due to McCartney’s marital woes with Heather Mills, whom he’s now divorcing. While it’s hoped that Liverpool Oratorio during the city’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008, a West End run has also been touted. McCartney himself plans to act as music director of the show.
