Lord Has Dibs on Dominion Post-Queen???

By • West End
With We Will Rock You’s closure at the Dominion Theatre now confirmed (See Today’s News), the way looks cleared for the West End premiere of The Lord of the Rings. The £11.5 million stage musical adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy was originally due to premiere in London in 2005/6 and had always set its sights on the 2000-seat Dominion. But with the Queen musical holding on there, producers decided last year to switch the world premiere to Toronto, where The Lord of the Rings opens at the Princess of Wales Theatre this March (See News, 15 Mar 2005). All going to plan, The Lord of the Rings will start London previews in February 2007 ahead of a March opening.
