More juicy titbits from Dominic Dromgoole’s inaugural season at Shakespeare’s Globe (See The Goss, 9 Jan 2006). It looks like there will be two world premieres – one from Howard Brenton and one from Simon Bent – running in rep this summer at the Bankside landmark. Bent’s new play Under the Black Flag will follow the early life and adventures of the famous pirate Long John Silver, while Brenton’s In Extremis will recount the story of Abelard and Heloise. The pair will be interspersed amongst the more usual Globe programme of four Shakespeare productions in the new season entitled “The Edges of Rome”. Full details will be announced at Dromgoole’s first Globe press conference tomorrow (Wednesday 11 January 2006). Watch this space for in-depth reporting from the event!
