And if today’s speculation about The Lord of the Rings and The Sound of Music weren’t enough, we’ve recently had further indication that 2006 will see one of the biggest battles of the big musicals in the West End in years. On Friday – two days after Daddy Cool announced its star casting and two hours after Spamalot confirmed its UK premiere – two glitzy press launch invites landed on our desk: for Evita on 31 January and Wicked on 2 February. Of course, the latter has already confirmed its September opening at the Apollo Victoria (See News, 16 Dec 2005), so we assume that its launch will include some exciting casting information. In any case, look out for further reporting on both next week. Plus, we’re still expecting news soon about Avenue Q and others. So many musicals, it’s getting hard to keep up!
