And if Ruby Wax doesn’t grab you as a big enough challenge, perhaps the “Ten Minute Musical Challenge” will. Taking place in February 2005 as part of the Musical Voices festival at south London’s Greenwich Theatre, it will involve six teams of bookwriter, lyricist and composer, who will be charged with selecting a piece from that day’s newspaper and turning it into a mini-musical in just ten hours. Ahead of that, the race is on to find the 18 worthy participants. To demonstrate that you’re up to the task, you need to buy a copy of The Times newspaper this Monday 10 January 2005, pick an appropriate story and explain why you think it could be provide the basis for a musical. Entries will be accepted up until 9.00am on Tuesday 11 January. For further information on the Challenge, visit the Greenwich Theatre website.
