Gaby Roslin Continues to 8 Mar as Chicago's Mama

By • West End
Television presenter Gaby Roslin has extended her contract with the West End production of Chicago, in which she'll now continue to feature as prison matron Mama Morton until 8 March 2003. Meanwhile, former EastEnders' star Michael Greco, who joined the cast at the same time as Roslin (18 November 2002) to play super-slick lawyer Billy Flynn, remains in the show until 22 March 2003.

Chicago marks the West End musical debuts for both Roslin and Greco. Roslin is best known as the face of TV programmes such as Whatever You Want and Television's Greatest Hits in addition to Big Breakfast, while Greco is familiar for his five years as Beppe Di Marco in BBC soap EastEnders, though his previous stage credits include All's Well That Ends Well and Don Juan.

The current cast also features musical theatre regulars Linzi Hateley and Tiffany Graves as murderesses Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly and David Birrell as Amos Hart. Details of new cast appointments are expected shortly. According to recent rumours in The Goss, TV actress and estranged wife of Les Dennis Amanda Holden and dancer Wayne Sleep are amongst those tipped to join the cast in the parts of Mama and Amos.

Chicago, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Rick Clarke. Musical supervision is by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Gareth Valentine. The production is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.

The musical opened at the Adelphi in November 1997 and went on to win the 1998 Olivier for Outstanding Musical Production and the 1998 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. It's currently booking at the Adelphi up to 27 September 2003, while a separate touring production continues its extensive UK-wide schedule.
