Third open-air theatre festival in Watford builds its audience

Ten days of Imagine Watford – free outdoor theatre art of all kinds from across the world – has brought nearly 96,000 people into the town. That’s an increase over last year’s 57,000 visitors. Over 81 per cent said that they came specifically for the festival.

Comments from the public include: “amazing acts and really unusual”, “a fantastic asset for Watford. It could be a major draw from London”, “an international arts festival that is easily available to all” and “astonishing that it’s all free”.

The spectacular finale was provided by whirling dervish Ziya Azazi, who starred in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Giant dinosaurs, dancing beds, spinning trolleys, pulsating music and plumes of confetti were other highlights.
