Synopsis

Brett Haylock looks forward to welcoming you to La Soiree and welcoming back to London a fabulous line-up of world-renowned artists including Captain Frodo, The English Gents, David O’Mer (Bath Boy) and Miss Behave who have not been seen in London since La Clique closed the Hippodrome in 2009. This year they will conduct proceedings in the exquisite Magic Mirrors - a delicious auditorium of carved wood, polished mirrors, crystal and leadlight - which will be in London for the very first time, landing on London’s South Bank for a limited season from this October. Reviving the passion, heart, style and good old-fashioned showmanship that made them London favourites, the artists will present their delicious and twisted take on cabaret and variety in La Soiree - the umbrella under which they will perform for this Christmas. This troupe of performers first performed together in Edinburgh and they have gone on to perform around the world conquering everything in their path. Paris, Sydney, Stockholm and New York have all fallen for their charms. They are excited to be returning to London, the city where they performed for sell-out seasons at The Hippodrome (where they were part of the cast that won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment) and The Roundhouse. London is the place where audiences and critics fell in love with this crazy family of performers and they can’t wait to get back!

Michael Coveney - 22 October 2010

A large European mirror tent has landed on a patch of ground – was it the public car park? – next to the National Theatre. One of the acts on the bill, Mooky Cornish, declares that it’s high time a Canadian like her brought a little culture to the South Bank...

What she brings, of course, along with other acts familiar to aficionados of La Clique, is a vaudevillian alternative for the holiday season in a perfect setting: the Big Top, a tiny stage, and great bar areas.

The only things missing, really, are live music, animals and a proper compère, though scissor-swallowing, tongue-piercing Miss Behave in a tight yellow PVC dress mingles sportively with the customers.

The line-up will change every night, and the show seems a good option for office parties as winter draws on. You’ll probably need that good company and light relief after watching Norwegian contortionist Captain Frodo squeeze his double-j...

Phill - 4 November 2010: starstar

Am i the only person that idnt enjoy this show? From the no allocated seats! which were in fact allocated to some in advance, meaning that getting there early to guarantee front row seats was a waste of time. The English gents were impressive ( but i have seen them on T.V. before the same goes for Frodo but how many times do you want to watch someone climb through a tennis raquet? The rest of the show was the sort of thing you would get as entertainment on your average 3* holiday...
