Synopsis A gala concert uniting many of the Jette Parker Young Artists from the Programme's fist ten years who have gone on to enjoy success on the world's opera stages. The opera was commissioned to celebrate the coronation of King Charles X of France in Rheims in 1825. The opera features a group of European aristocrats who are en route to join in the French coronation festivities, but instead get waylaid in the French Tyrol. This aristocratic group has representatives from several European nations and along with Russian, Polish, French, German and Italian characters, Rossini also included an English colonel, a Tyrolean hostess, a Spanish admiral, a Roman poet and a Greek girl. Each character takes on their native country's stereotypes: the German baron loves music, the Italian adores antiques and the French countess cherishes her possessions (with an aria about lost luggage.
