I'm not really a great ballet fan but this one had me hooked for the entire two and a half hour duration. Telling the Andersen fairy tale and set to Prokofiev's The Stone Flower music, the staging is striking and the individual and ensemble dancing notable. The elements of the story are clearly deliniated in the portrayal and the characterisations are well realized. The programme notes were not really necessary although it was interesting to learn that the couple could be brother and sister (I was unfamiliar with the story). The audience were completely captivated throughout, despite the length, and I was won over. You'll be glad you went....
