Synopsis

An ear-tickling delight for all lovers of 19th-century Italian bel canto, Jonathan Miller’s affectionately comic take on Donizetti’s bittersweet rural romance The Elixir of Love is set in and around a 1950s American diner. It won all hearts at its 2010 ENO debut and now enjoys a return date with a fresh cast.

Dazzling young soprano Lucy Crowe sings the adorable Adina. Fast-rising tenor Ben Johnson and baritone Benedict Nelson play the nerdy grease-monkey and the gum-chewing GI who both vie for her affections.

Andrew Shore returns as the slick love potion salesman in The Elixir of Love– a performance that earned him an Olivier Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Opera.
