Synopsis Joan Baez has to be one of the most well-respected American singer-songwriters of the past 50 years. Regarded essentially as a folk singer, with a distinctive vocal style, her music actually covers a wide range of styles from folk-rock and pop to country and gospel. Debuting at the Newport Folk Festival in 1959, Joan went on to appear at Woodstock, record over 30 albums and was responsible for focusing the world's attention on the songs of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Steve Earle and many more. Indelibly linked to the protest song We Shall Overcome, Baez is recognized as an outstanding, courageous activist whose beliefs can't be separated from her music. Hall 119:30
