Synopsis First produced in 1841 at the Paris Opera, Giselle is perhaps the best known and most poignant ballet of the Romantic era. Set in a medieval Rhineland village, it tells of Giselle, a naive peasant girl, who is driven to suicide when deceived by her aristocratic lover, Albrecht. Filled with remorse, Albrecht visits her moonlit grave where he is condemned to death by ghostly spirits - the Wilis. However Giselle's love for Albrecht transcends death and she protects him until sunrise destroys the Wilis power and he is saved. Giselle is presented with the prelude Men Y Men, a new choreography by Wayne Eagling. Men Y Men is designed to challenge the men of the Company in a daring and thrilling new piece set to music by Rachmaninov. Choreographed for eight of the Company's brightest male talents Men Y Men sees men partnering men in an exploitation of the most exciting characteristics of a male ballet dancer; turning, jumping and lifting...

Home of the English National Opera (ENO). 2358 seats, the largest theatre in London, built in 1904 and very sophisticated at the time. The globe at the top was meant to revolve, but this wasn't allowed and 'chaser' lights were installed instead. Home of the ENO. since 1968. Society of London Theatre member. Restoration work costing £41m started in 2001 and due to be completed by 2004 to coincide with the centenary of the Coliseum. During the restoration an artistic programme will be staged.
