Synopsis

Private Peaceful tells the heart-wrenching story of Tommo, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night he relives his short but vivid past: his terrifying first day at school; the accident in the forest that killed his father; late-night poaching with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that have brought him to the Front Line. This is a well-conceived one-man-show adaptation of the book by Michael Morpurgo. A boy finds his idyllic working class existence threatened and then destroyed when he leaves home to fight. Fantastically acted, the play builds to a strong and moving conclusion which will leave you in no doubt as to what Morpurgo thinks of war and its capacity to devastate. The question of war versus family is prevalent throughout and neatly - and tragically - explored. Well worth watching....
