Synopsis

Seven very different young individuals each with a dilemma; from a black guy just out of jail and ready to make a new start to an anchorwoman for a local TV station. Each one is forced to look at themselves again when an earthquake strikes. This stunning piece of musical theatre uses jazz, rock and soul themes and comes from America's most performed living composer, John Adams. Set in Los Angeles, it has parallels with any city and its music speaks to all ages and cultures.

Joan - 10 July 2010: starstarstarstar

Went to this last night and really enjoyed it. We're John Adams fans in this household so had some idea of what to expect. What we didn't expect was something quite so moving. The performances really are very strong - all seven shine. Unlike the reviewer above we were lucky enough to be in a pretty big audience - though for performances of this stature the theatre should have been completely full. Good as well to see so many young people in the audience - I know that Theatre Royal offers special deals for the younger visitor. Am certainly recommending this to friends. I live locally so the theatre is easy for me to get to but honestly Stratford is on the central line, jubilee line and overground and is so easy to get to. Well worth the trip....
