Synopsis
Cian Barry, Jolyon Coy, Arthur Darvill, Laurence Fox, Matthew Lewis and Lewis Reeves star in the new production of Jonathan Lewis' Our Boys. Based on his own army experience it is both searingly honest and explosively funny.
An account of the tribulations, tedium and terror that young soldiers face when recovering from injuries incurred in the line of duty. Five young soldiers are killing nothing but time when their daily routine of TV, lonely hearts ads and light-hearted banter is shattered by the arrival of an unwelcome authority figure: a young officer fresh from Sandhurst. The camaraderie of this unlikely band of brothers is soon jeopardised by a dangerous incident and an act of betrayal. With charges of misconduct looming, accusations fly - and then the fighting really starts.
Book tickets now for this funny and moving new play.
Our Review:

Michael Coveney - 4 October 2012
Justice at last for Jonathan Lewis’ play about squaddies in a military hospital in Woolwich, which bobbled around in the early 1990s, surfaced again in Scotland ten years ago and now storms the West End in a brilliantly cast and superbly acted revival by David Grindley – who had his first job as an ASM on the original production.

And, until the tension builds in the second act over who might have blabbed about the beers, it lacks dramatic momentum.
But, as Lewis writes out of personal experience as a potential officer struck down by a debilitating bowel disease, and the piece is so immutably set in the early 1980s – crucially, after the Hyde Park bombing – the authentici...

I enjoyed Our Boys. It is both funny and crude and there are also some incredibly touching moments. Some of the characters are drawn better than others and Cian Barry and Lewis Reeves are definitely the best as soldiers Keith and Ian. For me, the most touching moment of the play is between these two as Barry's Keith cradles Reeves' Ian in his arms as he sobs after waking from another nightmare. Not always an easy play to watch but certainly worth seeing....
