Synopsis

Who knocked 'Mad Padraic's' cat over on a lonely road on the island of Inishmore, and was it an accident? He'll want to know when he gets back from a stint of torture and chip shop bombing in Northern Ireland: he loves that cat more than life itself. A wild, satirical, black farce.

I thought this show was fantastic. After all the hype about blood and guts I was a bit concerned as to whether I would be able to hack (so to speak) the gore but, in the event, it turned out to be absolutely fine. The writing, as well as being incredibly funny, was thoughtful, brilliantly constructed and drove the play along. The acting was very good and the staging terrific. As for the audience reaction, I have rarely seen anything like it. I was sat next to a 80-year-old who howled with laughter all the way through and gave it a standing ovation. I thought this was a sharp much needed reminder (especially after some of the bland, predictable pieces we have seen at the RSC) of what theatre could be. Oh, and I bumped into David Wilmot at the train station afterwards. Very nice chap....
