Synopsis
Based on Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night, A Little Night Music is set in turn-of-the-century Sweden where affairs of the heart are uppermost in everyone's thoughts. Elegant and stylish show featuring bittersweet songs including The Miller's Son and the classic Send in the Clowns.
Our Review:

Simon Tavener - 15 November 2012
Sondheim's A Little Night Music is a delicate, fragile masterpiece - exquisitely polished and precisely nuanced. It is a show that needs huge skill and understanding of the human condition to be fully successful in the theatre. Is it the right piece for a company of students to undertake? I have my doubts - they simply do not yet have the life experience to really inhabit their roles. However the cast assembled for this brave attempt have talent in abundance and do their best - which in many cases is very good indeed.
The look of the show is sumptuous - with a strong stage design from Anouska Lester and very well-considered costumes. There is some occasional lack of attention to detail - with inappropriate underwear showing through and elements of the set not finished to the standard I am sure they were hoping for - but considering the experience of those involved and the constraints of time and money, this is a handsome piece of stage presentation.
