Synopsis

A world on the verge of war, a world in which there must be a sacrifice. Agamemnon, Commander in Chief must make the ultimate decision; to sacrifice his daughter and take his country victoriously to war, or to save her and accept a crushing defeat. A man at the height glory must determine his priority, his family or his nation. Should the commander lead his world to victory or preserve his pride and joy, his daughter...Iphigenia.

Arriving at the wonderful yet secluded Brockley Jack I spotted the marquee for Lazarus’ latest offering and the start of their much anticipated season. The intriguing falling pink ribbon offers a minimalist and stylish insight into a production that is not only seamless but has real passion and punch. Harrington-Odedra has assembled an ensemble who have moments of true company, creating stylish tableau and intriguing movement. My only reservation is that the play is so dramatic at times it becomes difficult to fully commit to the grief, having said that Hedges’ Iphigenia has a wonderfully stirring final speech delivered with passion a rousing anthem. A stylish and engaging production of a rare Greek gem of a play, do not miss it. ...
