Synopsis
A love triangle taking us right to the heart of Cumbrian life in the run up to the first world war. It’s the story of a young married couple and their struggles - to carve a living from the land and to survive working in the coal-mines - just as the gathering storm of war in Europe threatens their community, their love and their lives.

I found this a very engaging and moving musical. I am an American and unfamiliar with either the novel or the previous productions. I had some difficulty following some of the multiple plot issues in the first act which were just brief sketched. I found the second act quite powerful and moving. The performers were energetic and believable. It was a delight to just stumble on this production (because we had had a wonderful tea at the fan museum across the street). ...
