Synopsis

'This McSorley's Second largest bank in the square mile. Half our traders break the million pound barrier. Just how far are you prepared to go? Pressure is mounting on the bond traders’ floor. Millions stand to be lost or won. Jess is playing FTSE with the clients, PJ’s practising his poker face for bonus day - hoping it’ll be Barbados, not Bruges - and superstar trader Donny’s in danger of losing his crown to the new boy. Could they be headed for more than a financial crisis?

I think we're being a little OTT, rds! Others have been here before (Carol Churchill's 'Serious Money' for one) and the credit crunch makes it more 'recent history' than 'hot topic'. There are so many scenes, that seem to take forever to change, that the dramatic flow is dampened. Having said all of that, it brings an interesting perspective on this dog-eat-dog world (the effect on the trader's personal lives) and has some good writing and some great performances. The young lad who plays Donny's son is sensational and almost steals the show, but the rest are so good he doesn't get away with it! Well worth a visit, but not a West End transfer. As with Alex, there seemed to be a significant number of traders in the house - but listening to them as I left the theatre, they seemed to be enjoying the recognition rather than disturbed by the reflections....
