Synopsis

For Annabel and her sister Miriam their sunlit garden is filled with deeply buried childhood memories. But when night begins to fall is it only the past which comes back to haunt them? Or something infinitely more terrifying?

Almost totally successful in its own terms, Snake in the Grass suffers from no excess of ambition. Its length, for instance, is that of a football match and, if it tells us less about human nature, it serves up thrills and laughs much more reliably. Ian Watson, I feel, is a tad harsh on the performances (aside from the superb Susie Blake); in particular, did Rachel Atkins' odd accent and delivery not indicate that the character was herself playing a role?...
