Synopsis

The original play of unrequited love on which "Brief Encounter" was based. A respectable middle class couple enjoy a cup of tea in a railway station cafeteria. Beneath the seemingly normal, genteel surface, however, passion and desire mingle with guilt and desperation. Above the whistle of the departing train can be heard the sound of two hearts skipping a beat.

What a wonderful, magical evening! The acting and magnificently original setting (a disused tube station) enriched the story, breathed life into Coward's words and allowed the audience to be transported to a bygone era. The effects, lighting and costume although simple were incredibly effective and provide a welcome relief to a West-End where far too many shows are dependent oh high octane, big haired, big-budget, big money productions. Hopefully the talent and ideas behind set-specific theatre within this theatrical company become more mainstream and recognised. It's a pity the cakes weren't provided to the audience (or even just me!) to complete the experience. A truly first-class production....
