Synopsis

The musical depicts the tragic life of Queen Min, a powerful matriarch of the Chosun Kingdom (1392-1910), who led the nation through the turmoil of modernization at the turn of the century, only to be brutally assassinated by the Japanese in 1895.

We went to see this piece of Korean propaganda, and the costumes and dancing are great - but the lyrics seem to have been translated by an internet translation engine: it's the only musical I can remember which features the word "modernisation" being frequently sung!...
