Synopsis

Capturing the true 'Essence of Ireland' this show takes audiences to a unique place in which Irish myths are explored through the power of Irish dancing, Irish music, and the delicate narration that accompanies this dramatic story. Showcasing some of Ireland's finest musicians and dancers this is an authentic experience allowing you to savour delightful harmonies beautiful choreography and an infusion of guitars in a musical journey you will never forget.

Unlike all of the Michael Flatley created shows, or many of the copycat versions that frequently tour the country, Essence of Ireland is not an Irish Dance show and to label it as such does a disservice. It is a story of love, happiness and heartache set to some beautiful Irish music, told in both song and prose and with some amazing Irish based dance routines throughout.

 

The tale is of Sean Michael Dempsey and Cora McGowen who met, in the 1940s, on holiday in Salthill, County Galway. It was truly love at first sight but, as so often is the case, true love did not run smoothly for them. Saw this at the Pavillion, Bournemouth on 22nd June 2012. A bit disappointed. I would have preferred the content to have been totally Irish music and did not enjoy the modern stuff. I was hoping to have a good singalong as other reviews had suggested but the man singing was going so fast he must have had a train to catch. The music was incredibly loud and I don't know how the people sat in front of the speakers coped. I had to put tissue paper in my ears in some section of the show and I was in row H. I cannot be compared to Riverdance. An ok show....
