Glenn Meads - 20 March 2012
After the opening night of the Manchester leg of the current Chicago tour, "the name on everybody's lips is gonna be Tupele Dorgu." The former Coronation Street actress delivers a sassy, sexy, leggy and flawless turn as killer Velma Kelly and the show becomes all about her, as a result.
Most people on opening night know the show inside out and tap their feet and clap along to the brilliant songs and music of Kander and Ebb. Dorgu's opening number "All That Jazz" is show stopping and gives the actress one helluva an entrance. As Kelly Crabtree, the actress was clearly wasted because once she unleashes her inner Velma, there is no stopping her. With fiery red hair and a strut worthy of a Beyonce video, Tupele is a West End star in waiting.

I saw this show in Cardiff and thought it was overall a very disappointing show. I thought that the two leading ladies gave a poor performance, the girls in the cast would have done a better job at playing Roxy and Velma than they did, singing and dancing was poor and their overall performance was shocking! The actor who played Amos Hart deserves a bit more credit as he was probably one of the most genuine actors of the night. Loved him! By the end of the show Ali Bastian had irritated me so much with her repetitive facial expressions that I couldnt even look at her. I love going to see musicals but I dont think Ill be wetching this one again any time soon....
