Synopsis

Dreamworks' hit animated movie comes to wild life in this fun family musical. This original stage spectacular follows zoo refugees Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo, along with their intrepid pals the penguins, from the concrete jungle of New York to the wilds of Africa, and features singing, dancing and plenty of on-stage adventure for the entire family.

Madagascar Live! Is a stage version of the Madagascar film, currently touring arenas.

This Stage Entertainment Production of the DreamWorks film is bright, cheerful and has fantastic costumes. The whole show is fun, fast moving and involves the audience. Several characters even leave the stage and interact with the front row on several occasions.

But it is the detail on the costumes that stand out thanks to Gregg Barnes, brilliant designs.

While all the cast as excellent at bringing their characters to life, regardless of them being penguins or hippos it is Shayne Kennon as Alex the Lion and Bradley Frenette who steal the show. The American pronunciations get slightly annoying, as does the constant chatter from the audience, but that is one downfall of seeing a show in an arena as apposed to a theatre. Why audience react differently is beyond me.

Madagascar plays several performances most days and as the song says Move It Move It to catch it when you can!...
