An excellent cast and wonderful production of this contraversial play. This is RSC at its best. The humour and timing make this a very enjoyable production and the implications that her "taming" benefits both is well made. The difficulty of Sly is overcome by cutting the whole part out - with no discernable detriment to the production, and the textual difficulty of Tranio/Hortensio (as Tranio appears to adopt Hortensio's character) is largely unnoticed in performance. Lively and funny - and the fact that the cast seem to enjoy is almost as much as the audience makes for a most enjoyable evening - see it if you can. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.107.228.50)

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this play, I am a teacher and only chosen it because there's plenty to say about it but in fact I really enjoyed it. Showing why and how Petruchio is as mad as Kate made it 'work' on a psychological level. All the students enjoyed it a lot, we did regret the ditching of the Christopher Sly scenes but I detected a nod in someone being thrown out of a door in the street scene at the opening, and the way all the 'watching' in the play was clearly pointed out. All the cast were excellent and I loved the set - loads of doors, just waiting to be slammed! I am looking forward to the sequel now. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.41.4.208)
