Synopsis In the cotton fields of Punjab, Baba, an ageing farmer tends to his crops and pins his hopes for prosperity on GM seeds and Western pesticides. His son Dhani, full of frustrated ambition, dreams of going to America while his dutiful daughter Chandni finds herself torn between the land she loves and the man she adores. Renowned for taking audiences on unpredictable journeys that entertain, excite and inspire, Kali presents this beautifully written and moving new play, which tells of the disastrous environmental damage and devastating effect on human lives triggered when the forces of nature, tradition and globalisation collide.
Great production. This play brings together all the important issues facing Panjab right today - the plight of the farmers, the environmental degradation, the social concerns and the push factors of migration. Excellent performances from the old farmer and drunked son. The money lender, however, comes across as modern a insurance saleman - not convincing. Also the emphais on caste was over the top. Great sets, lovely tree and good music. - Pardeep Singh Rai
