     | A Picture of Alchemy
Wow what a rollercoaster! I laughed until it hurt, I winced and had to look away and I was pleasantly exhausted by the end. This teasingly dark but strangely comforting satirical comedy left me wanting more from this exciting and energetic young theatre company.
An intriguingly vague beginning soon whirlwinds into the separate and yet cleverly intertwined lives of 5 strong women and their stimulating Spiritual mentor, Will.
Director Aoife Smyth has managed to create 5 starkly different yet entirely real women and his many words are given justice to by the superb actresses in this piece. Lisa Ralph makes a strong impression with her sprightly and eager portrayal of Susie, whilst Ishbel Nicol commands the stage as a feisty Riva.
Antony Law plays Will as a mysterious yet captivating young man, dancing around the girls, sprinkling his wisdom as he absorbs their varying levels of spiritual progress. Law’s delicious comic timing lends itself well to the question of whether Will is as honourable as the girls believe or if he is wickedly conducting a cruel experiment for his own end gain.
A fast, shock ending hurtled me back to reality and off to an evening of discussion about this fascinating offer from writer Michael Mallon
