Synopsis When Pushkin first read his new 'historical tragedy' Boris Gudunov to friends in 1826, the experience was so compelling that 40 years later, one of the audience wrote that his blood still coursed faster at the memory of it. Pushkin's Boris Godunov has been buried by Musorgsky's opera. It has never been professionally performed in English.
