It was Imelda, I can guarantee you.
I loved it. Absoultely hated the Mirror Number including guys. Plain stupid to do that! Meg Johnson was fabulous singing it, and should be cast as Stella Deems immediately. Maria Freidman was just wonderful, Liz Robertson was surprisingly powerful and funny, Philip Quast gorgeous.
But for me, Kim Criswell and I'm Still Here really was the highlight. She did a riff at the end, which just made it! - 62.189.179.5)

The most AMAZING show, such a priviledge to be there, faultless. Can someone help me though...It is bugging me, from right at the back where I was sitting Imelda Staunton looked incredibly like Celie Imrie..was this another substitution or wasit a trick of my imagination...didn't care anyway....WOW what a night, still have an incredible buzz! - 86.142.217.191)

It was widely known that Elaine wasn't involved, all websites had been updated, so I think the poster below is just one of the whatsonstage moaners!
Additionally, it was a fantastic show! Kim Criwell was more than a worthy replacement for Elaine! In fact, I'd prefer to see Kim! - 172.201.90.11)

OK! It was a charity gala - we know that - and it was advertised as such. And what a charity to support. How can anyone resist a charity which makes "dreams" come true for children who have cancer. Boy, one would have to have a heart of stone etc. However, why widely advertised that Elaine Stritch will be part of the show and then for her not to appear? And then not to make any announcement as to why she did not appear. That is, to be frank, not on! The producers of the show even took a curtain call and didn't say why. WHY?! Now I know some would repeat - it's a charity show and consequently - So What. Well I would counter that with and so WHY NOT?. What would it have taken for Nicholas Parsons or Sir Trevor MacDonald to have done so? Next time don't make promises you can't keep and if you do make promises then explain why if you fail to keep them. - 172.189.103.183)
