Synopsis 'Dentity Crisis is an inventive antic and mercilessly revealing black comedy which deals harshly with the pretensions of modern psychiatry. Recovering from a nervous breakdown, Jane is nursed and nagged by her energetic and overwhelming mother, Edith Fromage, who claims to have invented cheese. When her brother's multiple personalities are topped by her psychologist's sex change, it is hard to tell who has gone crazy - Jane, or the entire world? Double bill with 2+2+2
Thank you, King's Head for reminding us that theatre is sometimes better outside of the West End. This is a thrill-ride of a double bill, starting off with a lesson in comedy in 'Dentity Crisis, which features practically non-stop laughs (many of them guilty) and an energetic cast in a story of a dysfunctional family.
Next comes 2+2+2 which is the story of a dysfunctional society. The laughs are fewer, but the message is powerful and thought provoking.
Both shows are well-acted, well-directed and sit together well. I love the double-bill idea, too. Two shows for half the price of a West End ticket! - Ben Robson

We saw the first night of this show with a very high-spirited and happy audience. What a treat! Two plays for the price of one - serious themes and humour in a well-judged pairing.
Even though the Durang is short, it packs a big comedy punch. He is very popular in the US - particularly with actors, for his off-the-wall dialogue - but not much known here. With luck, this production will help change that. Everything is bigger and bolder than real life, and the plot is too surreal and complicated too explain fully - a girl, near a nervous breakdown, finds her family are far worse. Can you stay sane with everyone round you acting weird? The important thing is that it's done with complete conviction. The standout performance, as the formidable all-American mom Edith Fromage (crazy name, crazy lady) comes from someone I'm amazed not to have seen before, Nancy Baldwin. Like a younger, blonde Lily Tomlin, she's a hoot - definitely a name to remember.
After this strong start, "2+2+2" is a contrast, set in a tyrannical future society with 24/7 surveillance, where some people start to rebel. The script may be slightly thin, but the show is made by some fine physical acting from the author, Jorg Tittel and, as an android, Penny Lisle - she's another great find. It's all very stark, sombre and thought-provoking (though there are some grim smiles), with the voice of Richard E. Grant as a very odd Big Brother figure.
This was a refreshing, unpredictable evening's entertainment. Recommended. - Jane Hutchinson
