Synopsis
It's the 1930s and the penurious family of a retired actress are living in threadbare, bohemian Hampstead. Their best hope of the affluence and the extravagant life-style they yearn for hangs on her son Clive, a promising playwright, whose latest play is about to open. After October is a marvellous portrait of a chaotic household living life on credit, with their scatty actress mother, her daughters dreaming of success in art and dance, a depressive lodger and a gallery of individual hangers on.
