View Show Details

The Offer:
Griff Rhys Jones returns to the stage for the first time since 2001 to join the cast of Oliver! at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. See his return as part of our Whatsonstage.com Wednesday group booking on 13 January 2010 - top price tickets to Club members only at the reduced group rate of £39.25 (tickets usually 63.25)!

The Show:

Almost a year on Oliver! is still one of the highest grossing shows in London and plays to packed audiences. Based on Charles Dickens' second novel Lionel Bart's Oliver! tells the story of Oliver Twist an orphan who escapes a workhouse and meets a gang of pickpockets. With such classics as "You've Got To Pick A Pocket or Two", "I'd Do Anything" and "Consider Yourself" this is sure to start your new year off with a bang.

Oliver! was last seen, directed by Sam Mendes to critical acclaim, at the Palladium in London in 1994. Now at Theatre Royal Drury Lane it is directed by Rupert Goold whose other recent credits include critically acclaimed Enron at the Royal Court,  the award-winning Patrick Stewart-led Macbeth - which won him Best Director trophies at the Laurence Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards and transferred to Broadway - as well as Six Characters in Search of an Author, King Lear, No Man's Land, Oliver! and Time and the Conways.

Returning to the stage for the first time since A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum  in 2001 actor Griff Rhys Jones will be playing Fagin. His other stage credits include  Not The Nine O’Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones, as well as Charley’s Aunt and An Absolute Turkey (for which he won a double Olivier Award). Currently he is most well known for BBC1’s “Rivers With Griff Rhys Jones”.  Tamsin Carroll, plays Nancy in the London porduction having played the role to critical acclaim in Australia in 2002. Tony award winner Matthew Bourne choreographs this production against the dynamic sets created by Anthony Ward.

"Fresh, exuberant and spiritually full of beans. A little bit scary, a lot of fun, a rip-roaring success" Independent on Sunday

"A blistering hubbub of colour, crime, love and adventure. You’ve got to pick a pocket or two for this astounding show" London Lite
