Katie Leung leads cast of RSC's Snow in Midsummer

Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig’s adaptation of Guan Hanqing’s drama will open at the Swan in March

Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of Snow in Midsummer, Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's contemporary re-imagining of Guan Hanqing’s Chinese classic drama.

Justin Audibert will direct a cast including Katie Leung as Dou Yi.

Leung is joined by Jacqueline Chan, Andrew Koji, Wendy Kweh, Sarah Lam, Andrew Leung, Jonathan Raggett, Richard Rees, Colin Ryan, Lucy Sheen, Kevin Shen and Daniel York.

Emily Dao, Zoe Lim and Sophie Wong will share the child role of Fei-Fei.

Snow in Midsummer – which sees a young girl, Dou Yi, framed for a crime she didn't commit – is the first production in the RSC’s ongoing Chinese Classics Translations Project, which aims to bring Chinese classics to a modern western audience.

Katie Leung is best known for playing Cho Chang in the Harry Potter film series. Her theatre credits include Wild Swans (Young Vic), The World of Extreme Happiness (National Theatre) and The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures (Hampstead Theatre).

Snow in Midsummer runs at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 2 to 25 March, with previews from 23 February.
