WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
On the day of his wedding, Orpheus' beloved Eurydice is killed by poisonous snakebite. In his grief, he enters the Underworld to retrieve her, using his prodigious musical skill to charm his way into the very centre of Pluto's dark kingdom.
Monteverdi's setting of Orpheus' journey is brought to life in a new production by Southampton Youth Opera. The timeless themes of joy, love, despair and loss are framed by a more contemporary setting and presented in an English translation.
