All the pieces in this programme take direct or indirect in?uence from song, and both composers set out to evoke lyrical folk idioms: Schumann with the beguiling melodies of the ?ve pieces in folk style and Brahms through his stated preference for the old-fashioned Waldhorn to be used in his Horn Trio. From simple beginnings, these two great composers weave intricate twists and turns into the music that create an ever-shifting emotional journey that will both surprise and delight.
