New Sheffield season includes Show Boat
The new season at Sheffield Theatres will include productions of Pride and Prejudice, Romeo and Juliet and Show Boat.
Isabella Laughland and James Northcote will play Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy in Tamara Harvey's production of Pride and Prejudice, which runs from 14 May to 6 June in the Crucible Theatre.
As previously announced, the regional premiere of Lucy Prebble's The Effect, directed by artistic director Daniel Evans, runs in the Studio from 25 June to 18 July.
The Studio will also host a revival of Deborah Bruce's The Distance (29 October-14 November), which premiered at the Orange Tree last October; Charlotte Gwinner returns to direct.
Freddie Fox will make his Sheffield debut in Jonathan Humphreys' new production of Romeo and Juliet, running in the Crucible from 17 September to 17 October.
And rounding off the season in the Crucible is Evans's Christmas production of Show Boat, which runs from 10 December 2015 to 16 January 2016.
Written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, the epic musical follows the lives and loves of three generations aboard a show boat as it plies the Mississippi River. The score includes "Make Believe", "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man", and the iconic "Ol' Man River".
Evans, whose revival of Oliver! recently won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Regional Production, described Show Boat today as "our most ambitious Christmas production to date".
